Rapid growth and technological advancements have created high demand for those able to demonstrate knowledge in network technology systems design. Many BICSI data distribution design courses serve as a career path for those pursuing excellence in network technology system design. Several of these courses are recommended for candidates preparing to take the NTS Design examination.

NTS Designer candidates are tested on their ability to understand and apply a comprehensive collection of network-specific information. After you have acquired your NTS Designer designation, you will be able to:

  • Successfully integrate the components of network and cabling technologies to maximize or optimize performance.
  • Properly evaluate existing and proposed designs for premises and campus networking.
  • Discuss both cabling and networking issues with network users, administrators, consultants, architects and electrical engineers.
  • Make recommendations based on current and future network requirements.
  • Produce incremental “phase-in” upgrade designs to accommodate increases in network traffic.

The NTS Design exam is based on BICSI’s Network Design Reference Manual (NDRM). Those passing the exam will be registered with the NTS Designer credential.

Requirements and Qualifications

To sit for the NTS Designer credential examination, you must have:

  • A minimum of two years of approved and verifiable design experience in network technology systems. Generic ITS/distribution system design or experience in another area of specialization is not acceptable.
  • Successfully completed the ITS Fundamentals examination or hold a current RCDD.

The NTS credential is valid for three years. Within each three-year registration period, all NTS Designers must obtain a minimum of 36  BICSI offered or approved continuing education credits (CECs). These CECs must be of a technical nature and directly related to the particular area of specialty within the ITS industry. Click here for additional renewal information.

Note: The number of CECs needed to renew the NTS credential has changed from 45 to 36. This will take effect for the December 31, 2009, renewals and the renewals thereafter.
