Candidates for the RITP designation are individuals who work in the ITS industry but do NOT design information technology systems (ITS) or have limited design experience (e.g., instructors, educators, management and sales personnel). Instead of design experience the emphasis is on education with requirements to show proof of formal education in technical areas related to ITS or IS (e.g., A.S., B.S., M.S. degrees) or in major IS industry-related training and certifications/licensing (e.g., CCIE, Electrical PE, etc.).

BICSI information technology professional courses serve as a career path for those seeking advanced knowledge in this area. Several courses are recommended for candidates preparing to take the RITP examination.

RITP Requirements and Qualifications

To sit for your RITP registration, you must first have:

  • Graduated with an Associate of Science, Bachelor of Science, or Master of Science degree in an approved technical field of study or have achieved two or more approved Industry Certifications (e.g., CCIE).
  • Two years minimum verifiable ITS industry-related experience.
  • An RITP cannot hold an RCDD credential simultaneously. Likewise, an RCDD cannot hold the RITP credential simultaneously.

BICSI reserves the right in determining what is an approved IT technical field of study and other industry-related credentials that would apply. All information must be verifiable by BICSI.

The RITP exam is based on content found in BICSI’s 12th edition of the Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM).

The RITP credential is valid for three years. Within each three-year period, all RITPs must obtain a minimum of 45 BICSI-approved continuing education credit (CEC) hours. As part of this 45-hour requirement, attendance in at least one BICSI conference during the three-year period is mandatory. The RITP registration must be renewed every three years.
